www.youtube.com/watch?v=1l26UFQ06eQ SNL's "Welcome to Hell" skit A funny take on the daily struggle of a women with a very serious undertone. With the recent accusations around sexual assault in Hollywood, it's important to remember that people in power are given an opportunity to take advantage. SNL is bringing this to the public's attention, and keeping their attention by putting a funny twist on it in a dark sort of way. I think it's important to watch, especially for young women. It will validate feelings and show just how deeply rooted these issues of sexual abuse are, but still keep you thoroughly entertained.
Arie's Body Positivity Campaign Arie, a clothing producer for mostly women's undergarments, has recently started a body positivity campaign. They do not retouch their models at all, all pictures are natural, and they have a wide range of sizes in an effort to reach more women. When I first went on their website, there was a large picture front and center of a beautiful African American woman with a face covered in freckles. I had never seen a model with freckles before, and as someone who has a love hate relationship with their face full of freckles. it was really inspiring to see. When looking at their products, the models are very obviously not retouched. You can see their stomach rolls, their stretch marks, birth marks, natural skin colors. If you're someone who's never seen a model who looks like them, I encourage you too look at the website. No need to buy anything, it's just nice to see some models who look like real women.
